Legal Observers

Legal observers, most of them lawyers, do not participate in ACT UP actions (or at least not civil disobedience). Rather, they observe (and train others to observe) to ensure that ACT UP members’ legal rights are being respected by police. Many of them also do other legal work for ACT UP.
