Majority Action Committee
The Majority Action Committee advocates for ACT UP to focus on issues affecting people of color. It is called “majority action” because the majority of people affected by AIDS are people of color.
The members of Majority Action tend to speak up to make sure that ACT UP actions, particularly actions focused on city services, directly address issues that affect the large proportion of New Yorkers living with AIDS who are minorities. For example, the members frequently push to make sure that ACT UP literature is available in Spanish. They also tend to speak up to make sure that the people speaking on behalf of ACT UP (to the press and otherwise) are not just white guys.
Members of Majority Action should meet up with each other before the meeting starts, and also during the meeting when people break up into groups to discuss plans for Target City Hall, to plan their action and/or civil disobedience for Target City Hall. For some ideas, the Seize Control of the FDA page links to videos of some of the actions at the last big ACT UP action.
